Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is 365 days each year in our lives…Help us find better ways to treat MS!

Many people think that drug companies are constantly seeking new drugs to treat early MS, many who have MS feel that once they have established problems the options available to them start to diminish and they are left to cope with the everyday frustrations that MS brings. 365 days, every year can be full of frustrations many battling against an ever increasing list of symptoms such as muscle weakness and painful spasms, mobility loss, fatigue, tremor, bladder problems and visual impairment. Many have their working life abruptly curtailed because it is not possible to be of profit to any employer when you are unreliable with so many unpredictable problems. Families and relationships are also not always resisting the impact of MS.

MS is a condition that almost uniquely affects young people –often diagnosed in the teens, twenties and thirties. It is occasionally diagnosed in children. This is why the charity MS Research wants to support studies that aim to give back to people their functions and capabilities and hold the promise of leading to more effective treatment. There are two directions of research that could lead us to a future without MS: the use of assistive devices like those that can replace or control muscle actions, and the development of concepts and procedures that will protect the brain and spinal cord from the damage that is characteristic of MS.

There are an estimated 100,000 people with MS in the UK; the MS Research charity launched the 365 Appeal last year and it topped £100,000; our aim in 2011 is to raise another £250,000 through this appeal so that more research can be funded.
